ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

We’re talking with a man who was very close to Reverend Billy Graham. Glenn Wilcox of Asheville, NC owns Wilcox World Travel and Tours/American Express and booked the Reverend’s trips for more than five decades.

Wilcox said he is grateful that he was able to call Rev. Graham a dear friend for so long.

“It's been one of the greatest gifts God could ever give me to have a friend like that and I feel like he felt the same way,” said Wilcox.

Wilcox said there are so many memories the two have had over the years, from crusades around the world, to dinners with family and time spent on the golf course.

And always, Mr. Wilcox said, the Reverend made you feel like you were the only person there.

“He was genuinely interested and would listen, and anytime you're in the public with him and you'd be talking with him, and he wouldn't be looking around, he would make great eye contact.  He had the great ability to do that. But that's just Billy," said Wilcox. "He cared about people and he loved people.”

Wilcox said his friend was the humblest man he's known and never liked the spotlight on him.  And as soon as he was told of his friend’s death this morning, Wilcox knew it would be used for a greater purpose.

“The world's going to know about Billy Graham, more now than they've ever known," said Wilcox. "Plus, when they talk about him, they have to refer to his commitment to Christ because that's what his whole ministry was.”

Wilcox said he first met the Rev. Graham in 1965, after moving to Asheville.

Someone at his new church put him in touch with Rev. Graham, after learning that Wilcox owned a travel agency.

Their friendship was cemented after 18 holes of golf together, and Wilcox's travel agency would go on to book the Reverend's trips around the world.
