District: 2 Oconee Co. HS students charged, several suspended after threats, rumors of school violence

OCONEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The School District of Oconee County announced Wednesday that several students had been suspended, and two arrested, after threats and rumors of school violence.

District officials said several middle and high schools in spent a large portion of the day dealing with the threats. While none of them were deemed credible, district officials said 2 high school students were charged with disturbing school.

"Several other students in our high schools were suspended for violating the district behavior code," read a statement on the district's website. "School and law enforcement officials will continue to vigilantly investigate threats of violence and will prosecute individuals guilty of making or spreading threats within the school community."
