Officials with Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office say a social media post inciting panic at area schools, originated in another state.

On Wednesday, several viewers shared a screenshot of a post on Facebook threatening gunfire at "SHS." After investigation, the Sheriff's Office released the following statement:

In a sincere attempt to ease concerns and avoid any further miscommunication, the SHS referred to in the post is Springfield High School in Springfield, Ohio, NOT Spartanburg High School. We have spoken with an investigator at the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio. This incident is a very active investigation for that agency. The name used in the post is not the poster’s real name, and the preliminary investigation indicates the origin of the post is in eastern Kentucky. I ask your help in getting this word out locally and regionally to avoid any unnecessary concerns for both students and parents in District 7.
