MCDOWELL, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials with McDowell County Sheriff's Office released a statement Wednesday after a potential threat posted to Facebook began making rounds online.

Deputies released the following statement on behalf of McDowell County Schools Superintendent Mark Garrett:

Earlier this evening, the McDowell County Sheriff's Office was contacted about a potential threat posted to Facebook that made reference to BV and Marion schools. Their investigation determined the schools in question to be Buckeye Valley High School and Marion Schools in Delaware County, Ohio. The Sheriff's Office has been in communication with the authorities in Ohio currently investigating the case and were able to confirm it has nothing to do with Marion, McDowell County or any of the McDowell County Schools. I want to publicly thank Sheriff Greene and the McDowell County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with this matter and continued partnership with McDowell County Schools.

Know that we take safety very seriously and encourage people to contact us with information regarding any potential dangers or threats. If you see or hear something, please say something. We need your he lp to remain proactive.
