CHEROKEE COUNTY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old student has been arrested after allegedly making a threat against a school. 

Deputies identified the student as Christian Whitlock. He was charged with disturbing schools in connection with an incident at the Cherokee Technology Center, deputies said. 

According to the sheriff's office, warrants were obtained for the student's arrest after deputies interviewed students about the alleged threat. 

The student has been suspended, deputies said. 

Four deputies were assigned at the school as a cautionary measure, the sheriff's office stated. 

The sheriff's office released a statement about school threats: 

"Cherokee County Sheriff's Office takes all these threats seriously and will continue to aggressively investigate and charge individuals who make such threats. Students and parents are asked to immediately contact law enforcement and/or school officials if they see or hear any alleged threats. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and all other law enforcement agencies on our county along with schools district officials are committed to protecting our children and staff in our schools. We will continue to post officers ate schools even when determine a threat not be credible to give parents and students the peace of mind knowing law enforcement is present to protect them while attending school. "

During court on Friday, Whitlock received $2,125 bond. The hearing determined that Whitlock would also be GPS monitored, have no contact with any person at the school, be referred for a mental health evaluation, and Whitlock would be banned from school property.
