ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Rumors of another school threat clicked its way through social media and spread through circles of friends at Westside High School.

"Stop! We live in a dangerous world anyway. This is really ridiculous," Teresa Brooks said.

She just picked up her daughter and admits she didn't want her to go to school.

"When my 14-year-old daughter tells me 'I know places I can hide'- it needs to stop," Brooks said.

She says the recent Florida school shooting and threats are a concern and maybe teachers should pack more than pen and paper.

"They need to have something- they do," Brooks said."I look at the school and tell they're doing everything they can, but you still got that fear."

FOX Carolina asked Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride about teachers with guns in classrooms.

"There's a lot of different things being talked about with school security. I'm very open-minded about some of those. I haven't landed on any one opinion about it," McBride said.

The idea could mean training teachers how to shoot and how to properly secure guns. Some parents are asking for more school resource officers.

"We try to make sure all of our resources are allocated to protect our kids in schools because that's our number one priority," McBride said.

Tom Wilson is the superintendent with Anderson District 5. He says it's not just about handing teachers guns. "It's a cultural problem that's going to take a lot of people working to get her to try and figure out how to stop this," Wilson said."We're fortunate that our board has made a commitment to spend over a million dollars to provide school security and SROs (School Resources Officers) at all our schools."

Brooks is learning from her daughter how to let go a little even if its a tough lesson.

"She said I can't live in fear all my life and I have to go," Brooks said.
