ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A motorcade on Saturday morning traveled from Asheville to Charlotte to move the remains of Rev. Billy Graham to the Billy Graham Library, where he will later be laid to rest beside his wife Ruth.

The motorcade had a ceremonial departure from the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville around 11 a.m. Six longtime members of Graham's staff in Montreat served as pallbearers while at the cove, carrying the reverend's casket, which was crafted by Angola inmates, to the hearse.

The motorcade traveled a 130-mile route through Black Mountain, Hickory and the Gastonia area, and arrived in Charlotte by 3 p.m.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said suggested viewing areas along the route include the Black Mountain Town Hardware store, the former Black Mountain train station on Cherry Street, and Grace Covenant Church on South Boulevard in Charlotte.

When the motorcade arrives at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association headquarters, Graham's family members will serve as pallbearers, accompanying the casket throughout the property.

Pallbearer relatives include:

  • Stephan Tchividjian, son of Virginia "Gigi"
  • Basyle Tchividjian, son of Gigi
  • Jonathan Lotz, son of Anne
  • Steven Wright, son-in-law of Anne
  • Traynor Reitmeier, son-in-law of Anne
  • Tullian Tchividjian, son of Gigi
  • Will Graham, son of Franklin
  • Graham Dienert, son of Ruth
  • Aram Tchividjian, son of Gigi
  • Roy Graham, son of Franklin
  • Edward Graham, son of Franklin
  • Antony Tchividjian, son of Gigi
  • Alex Graham, son of Nelson Edman "Ned"
  • Samuel Graham, son of Ned

Rev. Graham will lie in repose on Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. where community members can visit the Graham Family Homeplace on the library property and pay tribute to "America's pastor."

His remains will then be moved to the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. for Wednesday and Thursday where he will lie in honor.

Graham will be laid to rest after a private, invitation-only funeral service on Friday at the Billy Graham Library. He will be buried beside his wife, Ruth, at the foot of a cross-shaped pathway on the northeast side of the library property.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said President Trump, Vice President Pence, and all living former presidents have been invited to the funeral ceremony.
