SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A boil water advisory has been issued for Spartanburg Water System customers after a water main break on Tuesday, and restoration is in progress.

Per the release, a 12-inch water main break in the Southport Road area has affected the water service in the following areas: Southport Road from South Avenue to Matthew Perry Road, Canaan Church Road, Sequoia Drive, Pinton Drive, Summerland Drive, Bayberry Drive, Old Canaan Road, S. Meadow Drive, Canaan Road, Seay Lane, Loop Road, Bullington road, Carolina Country Club Road, Lakeland Drive, Michael Drive and Seabrook Drive.

There has been no confirmed contamination of the water system in this area, but their 230 customers are advised to boil water prior to consumption or prior to cooking as a precautionary measure.

"Until test results can be reviewed, customers are advised to boil water intended for drinking or cooking vigorously for at least one (1) full minute prior to use. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes."

Customers may experience a brief interruption of service or a reduction in normal water pressure.

Crews were on the scene all night working to make the final repairs to restore the line break as quickly as possible. Restoration is expected soon, but no ETA is being provided until a member of the field team overseeing the repair crew has a time estimate. They will notify customers as soon as it is restored.

The Spartanburg Water System is communicating directly with customers, but any customers who want to speak with them should call (864) 582-6375.
