"The truth is we want to feel safe, we don't want to be another tally on the murder victim's list, we want to be heard and to be listened to," one student said to the Greenville County School Board Tuesday evening.

"Parents don't want to bury our children, we don't want to worry about kids shooting up the school," Bettina Byrant said.

Bryant has three children in the Greenville County school system.

Bryant and other parents were in the crowd Tuesday night, wanting to hear more from the board regarding what is being done about student safety after strings of threats have been made locally and nationally.  One parent said she's gotten into her son's school. She explained students will let her in and added  if she can make it in, anyone can.

Some parents suggest metal detectors, and raising taxes. The school board addressed this on a separate occasion explaining there are some logistics to overcome in order to make that a reality. For every one metal detector, the school district said four people would have to operate it. Another concern, time. The district said students would have to get to school much earlier in order for this to happen.

"That is not something we should have to worry about as parents, we send our kids to school for an education, not to die," Byrant said.

The superintendent showed a video during the board meeting outlining how law enforcement goes about protecting each school and explained kids are statistically more safe in school than they are outside of it.

Students said at the meeting they plan to march out of their classes in protest sometime around Mid-March.
