Senators Burr and Tillis honor the life of Billy F. Graham Jr. with joint resolution

On Wednesday, Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis of North Carolina released the Senate Joint Resolution 53 honoring the life of Reverend Billy F. Graham.

The text of resolution features the following achievement in Graham's life and ministry:

  • William "Billy" F. Graham was born on November 7, 1918 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Since he was ordained in 1939, Reverend Graham preached to nearly 215,000,000 individuals in more than 185 countries and territories on 6 continents including providing spiritual counsel for every president since Harry Truman. 
  • Reverend Graham fought for racial integration, preached with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and even bailed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. out of jail when he was arrested for protesting segregation. 
  • He spoke words of of hope and comfort after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 to the people of the United States at the Washington National Cathedral. He received numerous honors and authored 34 books, including the bestselling autobiography, "Just as I am."
  • More than that, he was a husband for nearly 64 years to Ruth McCue Bell since 1943, had 3 daughters, 2 sons,19 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren. 

This resolution extends the sympathies of The Congress to the family of William "Billy" F. Graham Jr. and honors the life and ministry of Reverend Graham, as well as his contributions to the state of North Carolina, the United States of America, and the moral and religious lives of millions of individuals.
