Police hope DNA can be used to identify body found in Waynesville

WAYNESVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

An investigation is underway after police say human remains were located in Waynesville on February 28.

According to Waynesville Police Department Captain Brian Beck, the skeletal remains were located along Russ Avenue.

Police said the remains were sent to Winstom-Salem where an autopsy was conducted, but the the remains could not be identified during the examination.

"We will attempt to positively identify the individual through DNA," said  said William H. Hollingsed with the Waynesville Police Department.
