GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A long-time member of the Fox Carolina family has passed away.  Don Paine was eighty-six years old.

He worked at WHNS-TV for more than twenty-two years, until he retired in 2006.  Before he left, he worked on "The 10 O'Clock News" and "The Morning News."   He was originally hired on April 1, 1984, to help launch the station.  He worked for years in many capacities, including as a floor director and camera operator.

Paine started his broadcasting career while serving in the Navy in the 1950's.  At the time, he was working in radio and then transitioned to television.    His father questioned the decision to branch into television at the time, openly wondering if it was here to stay.  Paine went on to work at a station in Philadelphia and was on staff when Dick Clark started American Bandstand as a local show.   He often reminisced about his early days, working on that broadcast without teleprompters or video tape.

Don Paine was a mentor to many younger staff members in television production.  He was known for his hard work, his smile, and his stories.  He leaves behind a loving family, including a daughter and grand-daughter.  Funeral services will be held in Pennsylvania, where he grew up.
