SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

As the sun shined brightly over First Baptist Spartanburg on Friday morning, the rows inside the sanctuary filled with more than a hundred people, like Brenda and , who came to say goodbye to America's pastor.

"He's been a part of our lives since we were born... Brenda, when we got home and found out about it she said it feels like a rock, a piece is missing now, when she found out he died. He's just always been a fixture," said Francis Blackwood.

Reverend Billy Graham was a member of the church and his close friend and personal pastor, Dr. Don Wilton leads the congregation. On Friday, First Baptist opened its doors for a public viewing of Graham's funeral.

For attendee Patricia Vaughn, the day was filled with unexpected emotion.

"It's kind of a happiness tears because the sermons that Billy Graham preached and Franklin Graham preached and even our preacher, it all brings us to the same place at the end of times, Billy just made it before the rest of us," said Vaughn.

Others like Brenda Blackwood echoed the sentiment, saying it's not a day of mourning, but rejoicing.

"Celebration, he's in heaven," said Blackwood.

Member Cathy Kirkland joined two friends for the sendoff in her home church. She said the day seemed perfect for the man who gave his life to God.

"I think God gave us this day special. The wind keeps us alive and aware but the sunshine just brings us hope... His word was hope to all," said Kirkland.
