JACKSON CO., NC (FOX Carolina) -

Blue Ridge Parkway Officials say a deceased male discovered on Parkway lands on Saturday is believed to have died due to the frigid temperatures.

Per officials, Jackson County investigators located the body near Waterrock Knob in the early morning hours on Saturday after reports of an overdue person.

On Sunday, investigators identified the male as 55-year-old Ralph Brady of Bryson City.

Officials say Brady was reported missing to Jackson County investigators when he failed to meet at a scheduled pick up area.

He was located by rescuers approximately 30 yards from the Parkway.

At this time, officials believe the death was due to environmental causes. They say temperatures in the area that evening were approximately 17 degrees with high winds. They also believe a possible medical incident related to diabetes also contributed to his death.

An autopsy is being conducted.

The incident remains under investigation.
