Deputies: Man sought after brutally attacking, cutting girlfriend at Spartanburg Co. gas station

Posted: Updated:

Deputies said a man is sought after a domestic violence incident in Spartanburg County on Friday.

Officials with Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said they responded to the Hot Spot on Blackstock Road, and upon arrival, staff notified them that a female victim was in the bathroom hiding and nursing her injuries after being assaulted in the store parking lot.

Deputies said they found the victim crying, limping and bleeding from several areas on her body, including a bloody and swollen split lip.

The victim told deputies she'd been trying to leave her boyfriend Jeremy Owings for several weeks and was in the store getting a drink when she realized her boyfriend was standing behind her in the store. The victim said Owings repeatedly demanded money from her after she told him no, and followed her outside the store to the victim's friend's vehicle where the friend was pumping gas.

The victim told deputies she'd been in the vehicle's passenger seat and attempted to close the door as she tried speaking with Owings and then realized the conversation was going nowhere. The victim said Owings stopped her from closing the door and then tried to punch her before trying to speak with her once again.

When she tried to close the door again, the victim said Owings opened the door, grabbed her right ankle and pulled her from the vehicle, punching and stomping on her while she was on the ground. The victim said Owings brandished a small knife, grabbed her right wrist and then sliced her right arm twice.

Deputies said the witness and friend of the victim backed up the victim's story and said she called 911 when Owings threatened her with the knife after she tried to intervene.

The witness told deputies that Owings grabbed the victim's purse while she was calling 911, and took off on foot down Hayne Street towards W Blackstock Road.

The victim was transported by EMS to Spartanburg Regional for her injuries.

At last check, Owings had not yet been apprehended. He will be charged with aggravated criminal domestic violence, assault with a knife, and robbery with a knife.
