Greenville County Schools said the district is looking to hire teachers during a recruitment event on Monday.

The school district said it is combating a potential teacher shortage in South Carolina.

“Fewer college students are majoring in education and the pool of candidates is shrinking,” GCS spokesperson Beth Brotherton said in a news release.

GCS’ Shining Stars Teacher Recruitment event will be held at the TD Convention Center in Greenville.

“Every GCS school will be represented,” Brotherton said.  “While pre-registration was strongly encouraged, qualified teaching applicants will not be turned away.”

Candidates are asked to bring their resumes and be ready to interview with principals immediately on site. Contracts may be given at the event.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 8 – 9 a.m. - Registration Opens
  • 9 - 9:30 a.m. - Welcome from Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster and Community Leaders
  • 9:30 a.m. - noon - Candidate Interviews and Networking with School Principals at Career Fair

The school district will also make recruiting visits to eight other states as the search for teachers continues..
