Deputies: Teen charged after online threat previously brought knife to school

HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said a 17-year-old has been arrested after an online threat was made against Rugby Middle School.

Deputies said Hunter Scott Aly was identified as the suspect and taken into custody on Sunday.

Aly was charged with making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property and two counts of communicating threats.  His bond has been set at $9,000 and he is due to make his first court appearance on Monday.

According to deputies, Aly was previously arrested in February 2017 for having a knife at school. Aly pleaded guilty in April to the charge which was later voluntarily dismissed. Officials said the charge was voluntarily dismissed in July 2017 after no other infractions or charges were incurred between April and July.

Deputies said Aly is the son of a Henderson County deputy.

Th district declined to comment on the incident, stating student discipline information is confidential.

The school district released this statement about the Sunday arrest:

This morning, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office, Hendersonville North Carolina was alerted to an online threat specifically referencing Rugby Middle School. Law enforcement officials immediately responded and began investigating the report.

At this hour, investigators have identified and arrested the individual responsible for the threat. In an effort to further assure the safety of our school campus, additional law enforcement officers will be present throughout the school day tomorrow.

Once again, law enforcement has taken the individual responsible for the threat against Rugby into custody.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep the students and staff of Rugby Middle School safe.
