Spartanburg County deputies said they were called to investigate after a man said his neighbor fired a gun at him while he was mowing his lawn Sunday afternoon.

Deputies said they responded to South Blackstock Road and met with the victim around 4:15. The victim told them he was moving his yard when his neighbor came out from his house, started shouting, and then fired multiple gunshots in his direction.

Deputies said they then went to talk to the neighbor, who admitted to the shooting.

Deputies also noticed a spent 9 mm shell casing on the front porch. Deputies said they secured a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol inside the house.

Per an incident, the neighbor said “it was bothering him” that the victim was mowing and that “he wanted him to go mow somewhere else.”

When the victim didn’t respond to his shouting, the neighbor said he shot close to where his driveway met the road.

The neighbor said the sound of the mowing was bothering him and admitted that he had a medical condition that was likely impacting his decision making.

After hearing of the medical condition, the victim agreed not to pursue charges.

Deputies called one of the neighbor’s relatives to take possession of his pistols until his medical treatment is completed.
