ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

SLED agents say two Upstate men were arrested and charged after attempting to obtain insurance money from Stop-A-Minit after claiming one of them had suffered a fall.

Agents say 37-year-old Kevin Robert Desanto and 58-year-old William Guido Slater, both from Anderson, were charged with presenting a false claim for insurance payment, value $10,000 or more.

Per warrants, on August 9 Desanto filed a false insurance claim, value of $10,000 or more, that he suffered injuries after falling at Stop-A-Minit. He later admitted that he had not been injured and just claimed to be in order to obtain money from the insurance company, the warrant said.

Investigators say Slater claimed to have witnessed Desanto fall and suffer injuries at the business. Warrants say Slater had an agreement with Desanto that he would get half of the insurance settlement.

Both men are behind bars at the Anderson County Detention Center.

The case will be prosecuted by the S.C. Attorney General’s Office.
