The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said a dog was shot and killed during a response to a domestic incident on Tuesday.

Deputies were called to a home in the 800 block of Boiling Springs Road around 12:30 p.m. in regards to a dispute. When they got on scene, deputies said they learned the suspect in the incident was inside the home.

Law enforcement surrounded the home and deputies said they used a PA system to contact the suspect, who they said refused to comply. According to deputies, the suspect repeatedly opened the door of the home and threatened to release a pit bull on them.

When the dog charged out of the home, deputies said at least one shot was fired striking the dog. The pit bull is deceased. No other individuals were injured in the incident.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Gregory Tyquan Hill, who is charged with second-degree domestic violence and resisting arrest.

According to arrest warrants, Hill hit a victim about the head and ear with a shoe, leaving swelling. Warrants also indicate he commanded the dog to attack officers.

Hill is currently behind bars at the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with the following:

  • second degree domestic violence
  • assault on an officer while resisting arrest
