ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Allegiant Airlines on Wednesday added new nonstop flights between Asheville Regional Airport and Denver twice weekly through the summer.

"The community has been asking for a nonstop to Denver for many years, and we have been advocating strongly for a long time," said Lew Bleiweis, Asheville Airport’s Executive Director, in a news release. "There is a significant link between both cities and regions, leisure and business ties alike. Denver has consistently been in the top ten markets served by AVL, even without a nonstop flight option. With the addition of a nonstop option, we anticipate that the travel numbers to and from both locations will soar."

Western North Carolina business’s links to Colorado include New Belgium Brewing and Oskar Blues, which are both headquartered near Denver and have breweries in the Mountains. The Asheville Tourists minor league baseball team is also connected to Denver's major league team, the Colorado Rockies.

Allegiant currently offers direct flight from Asheville to Baltimore/Washington DC, Fort Lauderdale, Newark, Orlando (Sanford), Punta Gorda, and St.Pete-Clearwater.
