GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters in Greenville County have been working to contain an underground fire for a couple of days now, according to the chief.

The Parker Fire Department, along with Greenville County deputies, had West Blue Ridge Drive blocked off as crews worked to extinguish the debris fire Sunday. West Blue Ridge Drive was closed from Palmetto Avenue to Columbia Avenue.

Parker Fire Chief Steve Alverson said the fire started at a dump site and it was difficult to extinguish because part of the fire had traveled underground.

On Monday, firefighters were back on scene because the fire was continuing to burn underground.

No injuries were reported.
