Police: Husband arrested after woman shot in Fletcher

FLETCHER, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Fletcher Police Department said a man has been arrested after his wife was shot in western North Carolina on Sunday.

Officers were called to the shooting on Phillips Court around 8 a.m. where they found a female victim with a gunshot wound to her upper body.

Police said 33-year-old Nosher Chiah, the victim's husband, was interviewed as a suspect in the incident. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within enclosure to incite fear and assault on a female.

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.

The victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case.
