GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate community stepped up in a big way to help out a Greenville child who is about to undergo over 100 surgeries.

Five-year-old Carter from Greenville, was born premature and due to several complications after birth, his parents say he is set to undergo 135 plus surgeries on April 3, 2018.

A blood drive was hosted in his name from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday on Laurens Road to donate blood to Carter for his upcoming surgeries. The goal was to have 23 people donate blood.

By the time our FOX Carolina photographer wrapped up with interviews and was preparing to leave the event, the family found out they were one donor short of their goal.

FOX Carolina photographer Kyana Lance then offered to be the 23rd donation. The family was very grateful, and even recorded Lance as she donated because they wanted her to experience what it was like to be on the other side of the camera.

Anyone who was unable to make it to the blood drive can donate by visiting any Blood Connection Center and tell them you are donating for Carter. You can either give them his full name, Jeremy Carter Hefner, or his donation code 3JCH.

You can send Carter a get well card to the following address:

202 West Road

Greer, SC 29650
