GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville Police Department said one person is in custody and another is sought after a chase led to a crash on Monday night.

Police said an officer and K-9 were following a driver suspected of being impaired. The officer initiated his lights when the vehicle began driving erratically, but said the driver did not pull over and eventually drove through a median before crashing into another vehicle.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and EMS both responded to the crash on Roper Mountain Road, where the driver and passenger both fled on foot.

Police said despite many warnings to stop fleeing, 18-year-old Joshua Tyler continued to run and was apprehended by K-9 Sarge, who bit him on the upper left arm.

"The subject last night had, probably, a 75-yard head start on me, and K-9 Sarge closed that gap within three to five seconds. Maybe not even that long," said Sarge's handler, Ofc. Newman. "I got lucky last night."

The passenger in the vehicle escaped and has not yet been located.

Tyler as arrested and charged with failure to stop for blue lights and possession of methamphetamine.

Officers said a search of Tyler's vehicle revealed a sawed-off shotgun without serial numbers, numerous handgun and shot gun rounds, a Michael Myers mask, a set of scales, a pipe and two bags of methamphetamine.

The suspect admitted to having recently used meth and marijuana after his arrest, police said.
