GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The American Heart Association said more than 30 Upstate medical practices will be honored Wednesday for their efforts to reduce high blood pressure.

During a Hypertension Workshop in Greer, the AHA said the doctors and clinics that have achieved hypertension control rates of 70 percent or higher within their patient populations will be recognized as Gold Level winners in the American Heart Association Target: BP Recognition Program, which celebrates their commitment to blood pressure control.

Target: BP supports physicians and care teams by offering access to the latest research, tools, and resources to reach and sustain blood pressure goal rates within the patient's populations they serve.

Healthcare providers from across the state will attend the event and also have the chance to hear from expert speakers about blood pressure management in the clinical setting.

The AHA said early half of all Americans have high blood pressure, which is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke.
