SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg Regional Health System said its Trauma Team received grant funding to equip every school in South Carolina with “Stop the Bleed Kits.”

The deadly 2016 Townville school shooting inspired SRHS trauma program manager Amy Hamrick to write the grant. The $278,000 grant request was originally meant only for the Upstate but was then picked up by the other three other hospital systems for a final grant of $1.2 million

DHEC will distribute the kits will to schools in time for the 2018-19 school year and training will be provided over the summer.

The kits contain tools that school nurses and officials can use to stop and control serious bleeding, including compression bandages, emergency blankets, bleeding control patches, trauma shears, and other items.
