Police: Man with 5 prior domestic violence convictions faces new charge after woman escapes home, calls 911 from gas station

UNION, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Union police said a man with five prior domestic violence convictions is back in jail after he was accused of beating a woman at a home on Arthur Boulevard on Tuesday.

Police said the victim called them after she said she was able to escape from Edward Sweezy, 37.

The victim told police Sweezy hit her in the face and nose, pushed her around the house, and at point put a knife to her throat and threatened to cut her. The victim said she hid in a closet until she was able to escape and ran to the Scotchman convenience store to call 911.

Police said the victim had visible injuries to her nose, bruising and swelling on her heard and around her eyes.

Sweezy had left the home by the time police arrived.

Jail records show he was arrested on Wednesday and charged with domestic violence first degree.
