SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said a suspect wrecked a stolen car after a multi-county chase on Friday.

Deputies said a Buick Lacrosse was stolen in Greenville County and around 1:40 p.m., they were notified it had been tracked via OnStar to the east side of Spartanburg County.

When a deputy caught up with the vehicle near Drayton Road, a pursuit was initiated that traveled through Spartanburg to Pacolet on Highway 9. The driver ran multiple red lights and hit speeds of 100 MPH, per the deputy report.

The chase also traveled into Union County and Chester County, where deputies said the suspect began to slow down after blowing a tire. It continued then into York County.

When the deputy stopped to refuel, he said the vehicle wrecked around the corner. Per the deputy report, the suspect had crashed into the Pacolet Police Department Officer also involved in the chase. The suspect was taken into custody by York deputies and issued the following citations: reckless driving, driving under suspension (1st offense) and failure to stop for blue lights.

Deputies identified the suspect as 45-year-old David Bruce Sanders Jr. He was the only occupant in the car.

Per the deputy report, Sanders Jr. told deputies he stole the car out of Greenville County and ran from police in Spartanburg County because "the Mexican Drug Cartel are trying to kill him."

Sanders Jr. is currently behind bars at the York County Detention Center. Per the jail site he was charged with failure to stop for blue lights, receiving stolen goods (value of $10,000 or more). His total bond was set at $11,500.

The stolen vehicle was recovered.
