Deputies identify NC camp ranger killed in ATV crash

CANTON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Haywood County Sheriff's Office confirmed a camp ranger was killed in an accident on Monday.

Deputies said around 11 a.m., they were called to the scene of an ATV crash on the Camp Daniel Boone property in Canton. The Lake Logan Fire Department, Haywood County EMS and Haywood County Rescue Squad also responded.

The victim was killed in the incident.

Deputies identified him as 57-year-old Michael Nelson, a Camp Daniel Boone ranger.

A Camp Daniel Boone spokesperson issued the following statement:

“This is an extremely difficult time for our Scouting family. We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our rangers for Camp Daniel Boone. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts, and we will support them in any way we that we can.”
