Deputies: 3 heroin/fentanyl traffickers arrested in Buncombe Co.

BUNCOMBE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies say three heroin/fentanyl traffickers were arrested in the Leicester area of Buncombe County on Thursday.

Those arrested were identified as Robert Mitchell Jones, 58 of Asheville; Eric Darrell Eddings, 26 of Leicester; and Dominique Jawann Eddings, 29 of Leicester.

Deputies say, Jones intentionally ingested fentanyl when agents and deputies attempted to make an arrest on New Leicester Highway. He was transported to Mission Hospital where he was later admitted. His charges include:

  • two counts of trafficking in heroin/fentanyl
  • one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a schedule I controlled substance
  • one count of possession of a schedule I controlled substance
  • one count of maintaining a vehicle for the storage and sale of a controlled substance

Eric Eddings was arrested at his residence after the execution of a search warrant. He is currently in custody under a $45,000 secured bond. His charges include:

  • one count of trafficking in heroin/fentanyl
  • one count of simple possession of marijuana
  • one count of resisting public officers

Dominique Eddings was arrested at his residence after the execution of a search warrant. He is currently in custody under a $206,000 secured bond. His charges include: 

  • three counts of trafficking in heroin/fentanyl
  • two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a schedule I controlled substance
  • one count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a schedule II controlled substance
  • one count of possession of a schedule I controlled substance
  • two counts of maintaining a dwelling and/or vehicle for the storage or sale of controlled substances
  • one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

A fourth individual was arrested as a result of a fatal fentanyl overdose investigation. Deputies say Kevin Mack Shepherd was charged with second degree murder. Read more here.
