Deputies say a boy who went missing in the Smoky Mountains Monday evening was found safe on Tuesday.

Blount County Sheriff James Lee Berrong said 6-year-old Kaydon Leach disappeared Monday evening, possibly traveling with his small black and white terrier.

He was last seen at 6 p.m. near his home in the Top of the World community in Blount County.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies announced Kaydon and his dog were found lying down approximately a half mile from his residence. The child is being taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The Sheriff's Office posted this message on Facebook:

"Around a hundred first responders from several local, state, and federal agencies assisted in the search that started Monday evening shortly after 7 p.m. Search teams conducted grid searches throughout the night and into today. The Army National Guard provided air support with a Black Hawk helicopter overnight, and was set to fly again today just before searchers found Kadon.

Sheriff Berrong would like to thank all of the agencies who provided support and assisted in the search for Kadon, including the Blount County Fire Department, the Army National Guard and their flight team, AMR, Maryville Police Department, Blount County Rescue Squad, Alcoa Fire Department, TBI, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, the media outlets who, and the numerous citizens of the Top of the World community and others who provided food and water for the searchers."
