SUNRISE, FL (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Greenville Police have arrested a man they say was part of a ruse to set off fireworks inside a massive Florida outlet mall on New Year's Eve to steal a nearly $17,000 Rolex watch.

Twenty-two year-old Kevin Triana was arrested in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday. Police say he was wanted by a number of jurisdictions in Florida for a series of robberies. He has active warrants out of Florida for: grand theft more than $10,000, conspiracy to commit grand theft and discharge any destructive device.

Per police, Triana would pretend to be a customer interested in purchasing a Rolex watch while his accomplice set off firecrackers to cause commotion.

"As he was holding the timepiece, an accomplice would light firecrackers to simulate gun shots, and yell that someone was shooting a gun. As the commotion was unfolding and shoppers and employees were taking cover, Triana would steal the watch by running out of the store with it," police said.

Surveillance video shows, frantic shoppers and employees running for cover and hiding in stock rooms at Sawgrass Mills. Eleven people were injured.

The video shows Triana trying on the Rolex, then running off still wearing it after the explosions start.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Triana allegedly pawned the watch and used the same fireworks distraction to steal another watch at a Florida mall. Authorities say he was casing other jewelers in South Carolina.

On Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m., Greenville officers received information that Triana may be at Haywood Mall in Greenville. They were given a good description of the suspect and what he was wearing. Officers were able to quickly locate Triana at Haywood Mall and take him into custody without incident.

Officers also arrested Ivan Alexander Maldonado, who they say was with Triana at Haywood Mall. He was charged with interfering with a police officer for giving false information to Greenville Police during questioning.

Police also seized several items from the suspect's vehicle which included cell phones, jewelry, various clothing items and a bag of fireworks.

They have not yet confirmed if Maldonado is the same man who set off the fireworks that allowed Triana to escape with the pricey watch at Sawgrass Mills.

Triana has waived extradition and will be transported back to Florida to face charges there. He is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center without bond.
