SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said a man from western North Carolina is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with an incident in 2016.

Deputies were called to Bud Arthur Bridge Road in regards to a disturbance in October 2016. When they arrived on scene, deputies said 28-year-old Brandon Meyer told them two vehicles attempted to block him at an exit ramp on I-85.

According to the incident report, Meyer said he drove around the vehicles and made a right turn onto Buds Drive, which was a dead end. Deputies said Meyer told them the vehicles followed him and one of the men was armed with a baseball bat.

He claimed to avoid being assaulted by the baseball bat, he tried to drive off the road and around the men but one of them jumped in front of his car, deputies said.

However, deputies said video reviewed in the investigation shows Meyers intentionally ran over the man, who is from Greenville.

Meyer, a resident of Candler, was charged with attempted murder and served with the warrant on Monday.

He is currently being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
