ENOREE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

South Carolina Department of Corrections officers arrested a woman they say was found attempting to introduce contraband, including tobacco and a controlled substance into Tyger River Correctional Institution.

Officer say Christy Leigh Mills, 36 of Lexington, was arrested Saturday during inmate visitation on SCDC property. Per her arrest warrant, Mills attempted to give a Tyger River Correctional Institution prisoner tobacco and 8 green 1 mg Klonopin pills. The substance is listed on a published and clearly visible list of contraband items, the warrant said.

Mills was charged with the following:

  • Possession with intent to distribute
  • Criminal conspiracy
  • Attempting to furnish a prisoner with contraband

She was booked into the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office on Saturday evening and released Sunday afternoon.

"The South Carolina Department of Corrections reminds members of the public that after an arrest the burden of proof is still on the state to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt within a court of law," the press release said.
