FORT MILL, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A South Carolina man has made his way into the record books. The Guinness Book of World Records, that is.

His name is "Smokin’ Ed" Currie. You could call him a mad scientist. Pepper lovers call him the king

His laboratory is a place called PuckerButt Pepper Company in Fort Mill.

His legendary creation is the Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper. If you ever try one, you'll learn where his company got its name.

The peppers register at more than 1.5 million on the Scoville Heat Unit Scale, which is used to measure a pepper’s spiciness. Jalapenos for example usually range between 2,500 and 10,000 Scoville units.

Per PuckerButt’s website, “the flavor of Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper has been described as a roasted sweetness delivering an instant level of heat never before achieved continuing with an increasing tidal wave of scorching fire that grips you from head to toe. Eyes glaze. Brows perspire.  Arms flail.”

Ed hasn't let the Reaper fame stop his research. He said he is now working to create even hotter peppers.

You can buy Carolina Reaper peppers, seasonings, hot sauces, candies, and more from the PuckerButt website.
