April is Autism Awareness Month and Springbrook Autism Behavioral Health in Traveler’s Rest is doing everything it can to help its clients.

Leaders with the organization say children with autism are four times more likely to wander off. They’re holding this training so their clients can be familiar with search dogs.

The training is in partnership with South Carolina Search and Rescue Dog Association. The group will be bringing two dogs to Springbrook’s campus Wednesday afternoon. Springbrook staff, clients and their families will interact with the dogs and do mock searches.

Organizers say the training will benefit both dogs and the clients. The dogs will be trained to respond to situations where the person being rescued may be afraid or not understand what is happening. The clients will learn how to respond to a search dog.

The training is at Springbrook’s campus at 1:15 on Wednesday.
