Deputies: Sylva man accused of shooting father, fleeing into woods with rifle

SYLVA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Jackson County deputies said a man has been charged after shooting his father Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. on  Begonia Lane in the Dark Ridge community.

Deputies said they arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound and learned that the victim had fled with a rifle into nearby woods.

A perimeter was established while the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office’s armored Bearcat vehicle was called to the scene to help aid in the search. Deputies in the Bearcat used a loudspeaker to communicate with the suspect, whom they said surrendered peacefully.

Daniel Ray Hoyle, 20, of Sylva was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury and given a $50,000 secure bond.
