GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greer Commission of Public Works is hosting a blood drive Thursday morning in honor of an employee who recently passed away. The drive is from 8 am until 11:30 am at Greer CPW which is located at 301 McCall Street in Greer.

The blood drive is in partnership with The Blood Connection. It will help those in need of blood as well as Scott Parris' family.  Parris, 47, got sick in January. He was diagnosed with liver disease and died earlier this month. He was married to his wife Susan for 24 years.

"Scott served many roles in the Greer CPW IT department but his last role was manager.  Scott’s knowledge of our system, programs and how to fix things quickly was priceless.  When something went wrong technology wise we always called Scott because we knew he’d have a solution to the problem," said Alison Rauch, the Public Information Coordinator for Greer CPW.

Greer CPW hosts blood drives with The Blood Connection often so the department qualifies to host a Donor Benefit drive. For every unit of blood donated Thursday, Scott's family will get $25 to pay for medical bills. Scott used 70 units of blood during his hospital stays.

More than 30 people have already signed up to donate, but blood drive organizers say they will not turn away any walk-ins.
