Rochester escaped from the Livesay Correctional Institution on September 20, 2016.

According to the solicitor's office, Rochester then approached a woman and told her to give him the keys to her car. He grabbed the victim's purse and began searching for the keys. Rochester punched the victim several times before driving off with her car.

The solicitor's office said Rochester was found hours later in Cherokee County with the stolen vehicle.

At the time of his arrest, Rochester told police he escaped because he wanted to he his newborn.

He was previously convicted of unlawful carrying of a weapon, receiving stolen goods, resisting arrest, possession of meth and criminal domestic violence.

Rochester was serving a five-year sentence for breaking into a motor vehicle at the time of his escape.
