BURNSVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

"I don't know of a time we weren't friends," said Rachel Newberry.

She's a student at Mountain Heritage High School in Yancey County.

On Monday, Rachel shared a video on her Twitter account of a moment she'd been looking forward to for years.

"I have told my mom that I wanted to take Ben to our senior prom since I was in elementary school," said Rachel. "I knew that the promposal had to be huge and spectacular because that is what Ben deserves."

She never expected the video to go viral.

"Never in my life did I think asking my childhood best friend to prom would amount to something like this...I am speechless," she said in another tweet.

Rachel said she and Ben, who has special needs, have been friends their entire lives.

"We have gone to church together since we were babies and I just had a connection with him that I never have had with anyone else," Rachel explained. "He is always honest, even when you don’t want him to be. He always knows how to cheer someone up. He shines this amazing light unlike any other... you can’t help but love him and be happy around him."

"Ben is so adored in our community and I knew that they would love to see Ben with that amazing smile on his face, so I posted it for them," said Rachel.

And while there were tears at the end of the heartwarming video, they were happy tears. Ben exclaimed with joy when Rachel shared that she'd put together the entire promposal just for him.

"Ben has more fun in any situation than anyone I’ve ever met," Rachel said. "Prom is one of the most fun nights of the year, so if you combine those two you are gonna have the best night of your life!"
