Fire crews respond to apartment fire in Asheville; Red Cross assisting displaced occupants

ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Asheville Fire Department worked to contain a blaze at an apartment building early Saturday morning.

Per fire officials, the fire started in the roof/attic area of the Hillcrest Apartments located on Atkinson Street around 3:30 a.m.

The apartment's occupants were evacuated and crews battled the blaze. They said, due to a partial rood collapse, companies were put on defensive attack.

Crews said building 17 with six apartments was affected. The Red Cross is assisting those who have been displaced.

No injuries were reported.

The cause has not yet been determined.
