EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Pickens County Coroner confirms a fatal motorcycle accident occurred Friday evening.

Per the coroner, 32-year-old Christopher Shane Heaton of Easley, was traveling along East Cedar Rock Street on his motorcycle when he ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

The collision took place at approximately 7:35 p.m. Heaton was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, the coroner said, and he suffered serious head trauma. He was pronounced dead on scene.

The Pickens Police Department, which is investigating the crash, said it appears Heaton lost control of his motorcycle.

"The Police Department extends our prayers for the family and friends of Mr. Heaton," said Pickens Police Chief Travis Riggs.

The collision remains under investigation.
