Funeral service Monday for Greenville Co. deputy who died after 17 years of service

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Per a post on the department's Facebook page, Deputy Mike Atwell passed away after 17 years of service.

Deputy Atwell passed away on April 25. He was 41 years old, according to his obituary.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said Atwell suffered complications after a stroke.

He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

A funeral service will be held on Monday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Edwards Road Baptist Church located at 1050 Edwards Road in Greenville. The family will receive friends following the service.

The sheriff's office said a GoFundMe was set up to help Atwell's family cover the funeral expenses and other costs. Click here to make a donation.
