Spartanburg Police say a woman has been arrested after assaulting her husband, who suffers from Alzheimer's, with a brass cross.

Officers said 57-year-old Patricia Ann Tumbusch was charged with domestic violence, 2nd degree.

According to the incident report, officers responded to a home on Meredith Circle on Saturday in reference to a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived on scene, Tumbusch said her husband had fallen in the hallway and had a small cut.

Officers said the couple's roommate called 911 after he heard yelling and a loud bang. The roommate found the victim with a cut on his head and the brass cross next to him, according to police.

Police found several blood spots on the baseboards of the hallway and smeared blood on the floor, the incident report stated.

According to police, Tumbusch told officers they could not speak with the victim alone because "he doesn't know what he is saying." The incident report stated that when the victim told police Tumbusch hit him in the head, she talked over him and repeatedly said he was lying.

Officers said she became irate and kept yelling that the victim was lying and "never knows what he is saying."

Police said they found a blood spot on the bathroom floor and the broken brass cross on the counter. Fresh blood and hair were also visible on the cross, officers said.

According to police, Tumbusch resisted officers when they tired to arrest her and continuously screamed as she was escorted out of the house.

She is currently being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
