SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville is celebrating the grand opening of a brand new fire station to serve the west side of the city’s fire district.

Station 5, located at 400 E. Standing Springs Road, houses one engine, one reserve truck and it staffs three firefighters over three different shifts for a total of nine firefighters assigned to that station.

Fire Chief Wesley Williams said that with all the new neighborhoods and subdivisions, the department needed to cut its response time to the West Georgia Road and Standing Springs Road area of Simpsonville.

“With a new station opening it helps with morale of our guys," he said. "It shows the area of Simpsonville is growing and it shows the city and county recognize that growth and are willing to provide that protection and service to the people of that community.”
