Multiple fire crews battling large woods fire in Buncombe Co.

BUNCOMBE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Fire crews are battling a large woods fire in Buncombe County Monday afternoon.

Per Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue officials, crews are currently battling the blaze in the Rock Creek Road area.

Dispatchers say the call came in around 3:15 p.m. The fire has consumed between 14 to 15 acres, they said.

No injuries have been reported.

At about 6 p.m., dispatch confirmed the fire was about 75 percent contained and that no structures were damaged. They said the fire spread quickly due to the dry conditions.

At about 9 p.m., the fire was 95 percent contained.

Around 45 to 50 firefighters from the Fairview, Garren Creek, Swannanoa, Riceville, Reynolds and Black Mountain Fire Departments, as well as the NC Forest Service responded to the scene.

The NC Forest Service is now monitoring it.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.
