FRANKLIN, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Macon County Schools said a student was detained after a concerning "hit list" surfaced on May 1.

Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin said a student found a list of names entitled "Hit List #2" on a school bus and alerted administrators. Baldwin said the list had the names of 11 students and the school's principal.

Individuals named on the list and their parents were contacted.

During an investigation, Baldwin said authorities found a "Hit List #3" which was a revision of the first list.

The 16-year-old student who created the lists attends Franklin High School and was detained by law enforcement. A second student was also disciplined for making a threat against the student who turned in the list, Baldwin said.

The district said the Macon County Sheriff's Office, detectives and school resource officers were on campus following the incident.

Baldwin commended the efforts of the student who turned in the list and the swift actions of the Macon County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities confirmed the student who wrote the list was formally charged in connection with the incident. He is charged with six counts of communicating threats.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at the suspect's home on Frontier Lane, seizing a number of weapons. According to the search warrant, the suspect admitted he "had every intention" of harming the people on the list.

The search warrant states that the teen told deputies he "blacks out" when he gets angry. He also said he had the access code to a gun closet in his home and had two rifles in his room, the warrant states.

He said he had been considering harming individuals on the hit list for years because they hurt his girlfriend, deputies said.
