The Summer Open Burning Ban begins May 1

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (FOX Carolina) -

During the summer months, open burning in Atlanta and surrounding areas must be restricted starting on May 1st.

The EPD's Summer Open Burning Ban begins May 1st and ends September 30th.

This ban prohibits the citizens and businesses of 54 Georgia counties from burning yard and land-clearing debris. This rule is in addition to the year-round state ban on the burning of household garbage.

Failure to adhere to the burn ban during May-September may result in fines.
