SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Spartanburg County coroner said his office is investigating after a man was killed in a traffic accident early Friday morning.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the crash involved two vehicles and occurred on Southport Road in the Cedar Springs community.

Spartanburg Police said a Toyota Camry struck the rear of a tractor trailer. The driver of the Camry was killed in the collision.

Clevenger said his investigators were called to the scene just after 2 a.m. and found Tyler Patrick Burgess, 23, of Wyatt Road in Spartanburg deceased.

Burgess' cause of death was head and body trauma secondary to a two-vehicle collision, Clevenger said.

A passenger in the Toyota was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Spartanburg Police Department.
